Redefining Membrane Separation

Redefining Membrane Separation

Active Membranes CEO Arian Edalat spoke at the 2024 Global Water Summit during the session “12 Technologies for Industrial Efficiency” on April 17.

Active Membranes is innovating the future of fresh water by redefining the technology used in membrane desalination.

As freshwater becomes increasingly scarce around the globe, demand for converting unconventional water resources such as brackish and seawater as well as industrial wastewaters into fresh water are becoming more and more necessary.

This requires some form of desalination. Desalination is currently considered a technology of last resort due to the passive nature of membrane separation, resulting in high capital and operating cost, limited efficiency and sustainability, and complex process design.

Our patented and award-winning electro-active anti-scaling and anti-fouling desalination membrane technology alleviates these challenges by simplifying process design (minimal pre-treatment) and increasing freshwater recovery, and thus significantly reducing capital and operating costs of desalination at any scale, making desalination a technology of choice.

Our membranes are available in standard spiral wound form factor and can seamlessly integrate into existing plants as well new ones.
